We’ve had multiple clients who have decided to make the big leap from Blogger to WordPress. WordPress offers a lot more flexibility and independence, which is why it’s the only platform we work with! However, even with the ‘helpful’ importers and exporters available on both Blogger and WordPress, you can still end up with posts that are a jumbled mess, akin to this.

I think we can all agree that it’d be ideal to avoid this hideous mess of ugly, yes?

Here’s how.

Create a free blog on WordPress.com. Call it anything you want – it doesn’t matter. It’s just acting as the middle man!

In your new WordPress.com blog, import the posts from Blogger, using the built-in importer. Even though it gives the option to just upload the xml file from Blogger, use the built-in importer.

After that’s done and you’ve set the authors, export the new blog content into an xml file.

Go into your self-hosted wordpress blog and import the xml file you’ve just created. That’s it!

It might seem convoluted, and it is. But it works!

For a long time, I’ve been resigned to the idea that I would just have to continue using images to create drop shadows, gradients, and rounded corners in our websites. Yes, CSS3 is out there, and fabulous, but what good is it if IE8 (and older) doesn’t support it?

Yesterday, I made a discovery that changed all that. I found CSS3Pie – a script that enables all the fab features of CSS3 in older versions of Internet Explorer. That means flexible, dynamic options for rounded corners, gradients, drop shadows and more with one extra line in your CSS style rule! I know I’m a huge Internet nerd, but that is just exciting stuff. Faster development! Less futzing around with finicky IE.

I’m in love.

To accompany all this extra fun, I also found a great CSS3 generator, for those of us that like shortcuts.

Happy developing!

I just wrapped up a new promo image for Catch My Party. I love working with CMP! If you’re big on entertaining and want to show off your party planning skills, Catch My Party is definitely the social site for you. I’ve had the pleasure of working on a variety of projects for them, including designing backgrounds for certain party themes.

Definitely check out their site! In the meantime, here’s the little promo image:

And I’m definitely a big fan of anyone who loves to bake and shares their delicious recipes. Nicole of A Dash of Compassion had approached us about helping her redesign her website.

I really loved how passionate she felt about animals and baking, and how she was so eager to share her vegan dessert recipes. We worked together to create a new logo:

and overall identity for her blog. She had really strong sense of color scheme and ideas, and I’m glad that Valerie and I were able to bring it all together for her.

Be sure to check all the delicious recipes on A Dash of Compassion!
